How To Increase The Likelihood Of Making Lasting Change. Tenfold.

In this article I'm going to do two things. The first is tell you the mindset shift that will exponentially increase the likelihood that you'll make lasting change. The second is tell you how to impliment it. I'm going to do this because when we have both the knowledge and then implement it practically, when we have the "what" and the "how" we increase the likelihood that we'll create the changes we want to make and make them stick.

After 5 years of formal training to become both a breathwork practitioner and a counsellor, I want to breakdown what we learn to qualify so that you can use the tools and the knowledge that professionals use to get their clients results. Knowledge is power and I want to give you as much power as possible so that you can take the reins of your own growth and healing. Let's get you back in the drivers seat of your one precious life.

The crazy thing that happens when you go through an extensive amount of training and work with clients is that you start to see patterns and similarities between people, no matter who they are, what they're going through, what they're healing from or the emotions they're overwhelmed by. There are universal truths at play and there are things that work for everyone. This is one of them.

The Humanistic approach to counselling and psychotherapy is a type of therapy that at its core, focuses on the human potential and capacity for growth, healing, and development. In the world of counselling we call this the Actualising Tendency. - The innate drive within every living organism to survive and evolve.

With this psychological perspective that focuses on our inherent potential for growth, it's aim is to facilitate a re-organising and strengthening of our own inner resources, and to guide us towards self reliance, self trust, and personal authority. Its aim is to enable us to discover our very capable inner guidance system, to become autonomous and to find self agency.

This is the mindset shift that can catapult you forward and speed up your healing tenfold: Know that within you, lies a force that is always reaching for development and growth. This force is autonomic and happens without us having to make it happen (autonomic processes are things like digestion, our heart beat, breathing ect).

This innate drive gets channeled through our belief systems (many of these belief systems being unconscious) which consist of, amongst many things - our life experience, our upbringing, the conditions that we have been in, and any trauma that we have experienced. This is why we can find ourselves in suboptimal life circumstances, overwhelming emotions, and repeating patterns that don't serve us.

You can implement this knowledge by using the process of counselling and breathwork to untangle and re-organise false and problematic belief systems so that your actualising tendency is free to push you in the right direction. This is the first principle that every Humanistic practitioner incorporates into their therapeutic work with you.

It's common that people come to counselling feeling fundamentally broken or like their own being is the cause of so much suffering, but knowing that you have an actualising tendency and it is doing the best it can with the beliefs it has been fed- you can start to undo and re-learn what you need to with a practitioner, to make the changes you want to make and see the results you want to see.
